"The
Heritage of Burke County 1981". There are biographical
sketches about John Fox and his sons Alfred and John Wesley,
William James who was the son of Alfred, and Robert Joseph
who was the son of William James. There is also a picture
of Robert Joseph Fox and his wife Ellen (Julia) Saulman
Fox that was taken on their 50th wedding anniversary. The
sketch about John tells about his military service and how
he was wounded by a ball passing through his arm and into
his left side, how he was placed on a horse with a bundle
of bed clothes to lean on, and how he made his way home
to Wilkes Co., NC. It says the ball was never removed and
that John thereafter walked in a stooped position. It talks
about his two marriages - first to Elizabeth Loving, second
to Valintia Branch and names his ten children with Elizabeth
and his seven children with Valintia. His ten children with
Elizabeth were: Joseph, Lucinda, James, William, Alfred,
Austin Albert, Mary "Polly" Mira, Matilda, Cynthia,
